RESPONDING IN
TIMES OF CRISIS:
Azmuddin's story

When the Kunar earthquake struck, grandfather Azmuddin’s whole life was turned upside down. That night, he lost family members, his home and all his possessions.
'Before the earthquake, life in our village was peaceful and happy. People lived simply and harmoniously, but the earthquake completely devastated our entire village. Many lives were lost, and houses were destroyed throughout the area, leaving nothing behind.'
Azmuddin and his family were able to seek shelter in a tent. However, when he spoke to Afghanaid’s response team, they recognised that immediate support was needed to keep his family warm for the upcoming winter, but also to restore a sense of normalcy.
Azmuddin.
'Afghanaid provided me with 19,750 Afghanis in cash assistance. They also gave me a prayer mat, a flashlight, a radio, children’s toys, clothing for men and women, soap, shampoo, a toothbrush and toothpaste and other similar items...These items brought great peace to my mind.'

With the money provided by Afghanaid, I bought a heater and firewood, which solved our problem with the cold.

'Now I have a heater at home for the winter, my tent is warm, and my family members feel at ease.'
Now able to keep his family healthy, safe and warm, as well as stay connected with his community and faith, Azmuddin feels more hopeful for the future, and looks forward to rebuilding his life come spring.
