From the BBC Radio 4 Appeal featuring Konnie Huq to grassroots fundraising efforts, our supporters continue to go above and beyond. Explore the stories behind the impact they’re making.

Did you catch our
BBC Radio 4 Appeal?

We were honoured to take part in the BBC Radio 4 Appeal last July, where longtime Afghanaid supporter, broadcaster and author Konnie Huq spoke movingly about the impact of your donations, including the story of Khatira, a rural Afghan mother.

Having been to Afghanistan and seen some of the rural lives of women first hand, this appeal struck a chord with me. Empowering and educating women is something close to my heart.

A NIGHT OF HOPE:
Afghanaid at the Royal geographical society

On the 27th November 2025, supporters of Afghanaid came together with journalists, activists and charity workers for a night of reflection and discussion, as we hosted panel lecture and reception, “Afghanistan: The Reality of Life Today” at the Royal Geographical Society.

The evening featured perspectives from moderator Lyse Doucet, alongside Zahra Joya, Kate Clark and Afghanaid’s own Charles Davy, who discussed the challenges Afghan families face today, as well as the opportunities they are creating for themselves.

After the discussion, we hosted a lively reception, including both a live and silent auction, where staff, Board Members, supporters and guests were able to meet in a renewed spirit of hope.

SUPERSTAR FUNDRAISERS:
ADSTOCK VILLAGE

For almost a decade, Afghanaid has been proud to be supported by the village of Adstock and its fundraising orchard, Adstockistan, planted in 2015 by Jo and Tamsin Nicholson to celebrate community spirit and support vulnerable farming families in Afghanistan.

What began as a local idea has grown into a powerful example of how rural communities can drive meaningful change far beyond borders.

Last October, the orchards annual ‘Adstocktoberfest’ was a huge success, with the community gathering in the orchard for apple pressing, music and celebration.

The support also continues each January with a festive event, where singing, Morris dancing and ancient traditions bring people together in joyful solidarity, as well as through various events throughout the year.

In 2025, Adstockistan raised over £6,500 to support our life-changing work.

running for afghanistan:
Taking on the London Marathon to support communities across Afghanistan

For many years, Afghanaid has been proud to be part of the London Marathon, with our incredible runners going above and beyond to support Afghan families. In 2025, our team of 15 runners took on the challenge for Team Afghanaid, raising an inspiring £24,000 to help fund our life-changing work. Their dedication highlighted the power of people coming together to create lasting change.

This year, Zarrin Begum took on the London Marathon as part of Team Afghanaid 2026, running for hope, for community, and for the future of Afghanistan. For Zarrin, the marathon is deeply personal.

I wanted to run the London Marathon to help amplify the voices of vulnerable Afghan communities and support Afghanaid's life-changing work in rebuilding lives and restoring hope. As someone from an Afghan background, this marathon was personal to me.
Zarrin Begum

By joining Team Afghanaid, Zarrin turned that personal connection into meaningful action. Every mile she ran helped raise vital funds for Afghanaid’s work across Afghanistan.

Zarrin brought huge energy and creativity to her fundraising, with a range of ideas helping to raise as much as possible for the cause. She didn’t just complete a marathon, she helped amplify Afghan voices and showed how collective action, one step at a time, can help rebuild lives and restore hope. Thank you, Zarrin!
